We dachshunds with our short and petite frames, heartbreakingly cute faces and small legs are really popular among pet owners. Our humans can’t help but fall in love with us, especially kids. Our most important trait that renders humans helpless and weak is our cuddle power. Yes, the cuddles! I have heard my human praise me and tell her friends that she considers me the best partner to sleep with because I offer the best cuddles anyone could ever ask for. Puppy Eyes!

Why Do Dachshunds Burrow Under Blankets?
Unlike humans who love large, luxurious places, we dogs like closed, comfortable spaces that are familiar and provide us with a sense of security. The blankets that we like to snuggle in are marked with our scent and are part of our routine. Returning to these same blankets offers us a sense of happiness and joy. The pressure of these blankets when wrapped around my body gives me a sense of well-being. They also feel like the inside of a den or a refuge, which is the safest of places.
Even those of us who are not lucky enough to get adopted and must spend their lives as street dogs prefer to return to a familiar place to sleep after a long day. Returning to the same bedding is instinctive and sensible.
On my second birthday, my human brought me a cozy, red blanket that felt really soft against my coat. I loved it. I have had a couple of fights with the little humans who have tried to snatch my blanket away from me, but my long cute face always worked in my favor and my human, pitying me, always got it back for me.
Why Do Dachshunds Like To Cuddle?
We dachshunds are a smart and generally active breed. We like to dominate and this desire can sometimes come out as aggression. But when it comes to spending time with our guardians and the people we love, we are super cheery and playful. We like to stay around them and we love cuddling. We are friendly that way. I know humans love to cuddle, too, and they like to do it especially when they are scared or sad. I know this because we dogs can sense human emotions. So whenever I sense emotions like sadness or anxiety around my human or her family, I run to them with my tail wagging and my sad eyes and let them pat my head. Then I cuddle with them. This usually makes them feel better. Also, by the time they get better, I usually get a nice treat, so double win!
So, if you are one of those sweet humans who loves cuddling and would like a companion who will follow you anywhere you go, then you should definitely choose a dachshund as your pet. He would love to sleep with you in your bed while also cuddling with you. Pretty sure that would make both of your days!
Are Dachshunds A Needy Breed?
We dachshunds love our owners and we adore their company. Basically, we like to spend as much time as we can with them. We could follow them around the whole day and then sleep beside them, cuddling them all night. Also, those of us that had a rough past and were then later adored and cared for by our new humans grow attached. This makes us needy for our human’s attention. And in case we feel like we are not getting it, we might throw a fit. Okay, I know this can be a little unattractive to you humans, but come on, all of you have done that, too, at some point in your lives.
Before being domesticated, dogs used to exist as part of packs and as such, were used to living in groups. Dachshunds, being a hunting dog, develop much stronger bonds. Sometimes this can cross a line and develop into a bigger problem. If we don’t see you for long hours, we may develop separation anxiety and have a panic attack. In order to avoid this situation, dachshunds should be socialized. They should be made to stay around many people and learn to not follow their humans everywhere.
Why Does My Dog Like To Stay Under Covers Next To Me?
As I’ve mentioned above, we dachshunds like staying burrowed in the blankets because it gives us a sense of ease and comfort. It’s likely an instinctive behavior that we got from our ancestors who liked to sleep in a tight, close and warm place like a den. A blanket provides us a sense of warmth, cover, and security. We prefer to sleep next to our beloved guardians because we consider them the leader of our pack and being near them gives us a sense of safety and familiarity. This is why we tend to burrow ourselves deep in the covers next to you.
Why Does My Dachshund Sleep Between My Legs?
If your dachshund also prefers to sleep between your legs, then it says a lot about how secure he feels with you. Our ancestors who used to hunt had to sleep in the wild, surrounded by the unknown. Naturally, they preferred to sleep in dens with walls on three sides. Now, we dachshunds are in the habit of sleeping with our three sides secured. Lying between your legs, your pet dachshund probably feels protected and secure.
Why Does My Dog Sleep Under The Covers And Next To My Legs?
If your dachshund is in the habit of sleeping under the covers, do not worry – it is natural for him to do so. When a dachshund develops the routine of sleeping under your covers next to your legs, it is because we consider our owners as part of our family and what better place to sleep then next to one’s family?

The only thing we might prefer as much as we prefer cuddling is sleeping under the covers. I have seen humans sleep half of the year under the covers and the other half without them. I find it really weird. But, well, as they are humans, what about them is not peculiar? Unlike humans, we dachshunds really love our covers all throughout the year. The covers are our happy place. We love to cozy up and burrow our small frames in warmth.
