Pandas are one of the cutest animals on the planet. Whenever you come across a video with a panda in it, don’t you just want to cuddle with it? Unfortunately, however, they are one of the most endangered species, so they can’t be kept in a home. But there is a way around it – panda dogs! Yes, you read that right. Certain breeds of dogs look like pandas and even feel like them.

Table of Contents

How Do These Dogs Look Like Pandas?

This trend of owning a panda dog first started in China. In addition to being cute and cuddly, panda dogs are beautiful and just might be the best animal you could ever see. To be clear, there is no exact breed called the panda dog. A panda dog is just a common type of dog that is bred to look like a panda. Not every dog can be bred to look like a panda. Only certain breeds with certain types of features can become panda dogs. Find the list these breeds below!

List of Panda Dogs

The Tibetan Mastiff

was the first dog to start off the phenomena of panda dogs on the Asian continent. Anyone who has ever seen a Mastiff must have thought that they resemble bears because of their shaggy hair, bulky body, and floppy ears. Many dog lovers also compare Mastiffs with lions. If you take a close look yourself, you’ll probably note their thick fur and massive bodies, and you’ll see it too.
Mastiffs are found all over Asia, especially in Tibet, India, Mongolia, China, and Nepal. These dogs are primarily found in red, black, and grey colors. Because of the massive demand for a “gold” color, breeders have started to produce these pups in a golden shade.

Some individual Tibetan Mastiffs have white markings on their body, which is considered one mark of a panda dog. Some Mastiff owners even paint their dogs with white and black color patterns to make them look like real giant pandas.

The Chow Chow

Breed is found in the northern region of China. One of the dogs in the panda dog category, this particular breed is available in several colors: black, brown, red, and sometimes blue.

Chow Chows are also available in multiple shades. However, patchy coats are considered the standard type. Like the Tibetan Mastiff, this ancient breed also looks like a teddy bear. Chow Chows have fury manes, squished eyes, and square faces, looking precisely like pandas. These panda-like qualities encourage their owners to groom, clip, and dye their dogs to make them look exactly like a panda bear.

The Maltese Poodle

The Maltese Poodle is a hybrid breed that resemble a panda as well. In Japan, a dog named “Columbo” became famous as for being a panda dog. The owners applied a non-toxic black dye on its fur, and the remaining parts of the dog were dyed white. Before long, the Maltese poodle looked like a panda dog.
The owners shared pictures of their dog all over social media, and soon it became a trend for other Maltese poodle dog owners.

The Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is a fluffy dog that has been made to look like a mini panda. These dogs are the most popular panda lookalikes. They only require a little bit of coloring and grooming to transform into a mini panda. For a Bichon Frise, it only takes two hours to create a panda look that will keep for nearly a week. After that, it will be time for another trip to the doggy salon to maintain its panda style.
Bichon Frises are expensive dogs. They can cost $2000, depending on where the dog is sold. Also, accredited dog breeders cost more than home breeders. Other factors, like the quality and age of the breed, also play a significant role in determining the price tag.

French Bulldogs

French Bulldogs are adorable dogs and one of the most popular breeds for transforming into mini pandas. They are also trendy in small villages in China and can be seen roaming around.
The nose of a French bulldog is very different from the nose of a real panda, but that can easily be overlooked if they are painted to look like pandas. In fact, French bulldogs with big ears look even more impressive when painted in black and white.

Labradors

Labradors are also popular for being made to look like mini pandas. While French bulldogs are primarily found in China, the craze for Labradors can be seen among Westerners.
Labradors usually come in brown and black, so Labrador owners need to color the areas around their dog’s eyes and ears white in order to make them look like a panda. Labradors are considered very loyal family dogs who are great with young kids.

Precautions to Take When Getting a Panda Dog

Yes, panda dogs are adorable, but their owners must use safe, non-toxic colors on their dog’s fur. Unfortunately, under social pressure, too many dog owners have used harsh, toxic chemicals on their dog’s fur. Owners should also always purchase dye from reputable pet shops that are transparent about their products.

Once you have transformed your dog into a panda dog, you will need to visit the doggy salon for clean-up or retouching. This is the most important step for maintaining your dog’s panda look.

Lastly, if you want your dog to become a panda dog, take them to a pet shop. Do not try it yourself if you aren’t an expert because you could injure your dog in the process.

How to Take Proper Care of Your Panda Dog

Once you’ve got your panda dog, you must take proper care of them to keep them healthy, happy, and nice-looking. Since your dog has been cosmetically altered, they will require high maintenance grooming, so you should be ready to spend some money.

To provide the best care for your panda dog, you must consider your dog’s sex, age, breed, and activity level. This information will help you identify the best food and exercise routine for them.

Conclusion

As evidenced by video clips and images on social media, the craze for panda dogs has increased worldwide. Transforming your dog into a panda is not a big deal, but taking proper care of them once the transformation is complete is essential to maintaining their panda dog style.

Having a canine companion is undoubtedly good for you, and there are a ton of reasons to have a pet. Luckily, the benefits of having a dog outweigh the disadvantages. Some pet owners report that keeping a dog feels a little like parenting, so to “raise” the best companion possible, you must train your dog, otherwise the disadvantages of having a dog could start to outweigh the benefits.

Imagine your dog peeing on your bed. Or chewing your favorite shoes. Or barking in the middle of the night. If these behaviors became habit, it would not be good, right? So, to stay out of trouble, your furry companion needs to be trained. However, the training must be executed well in order for the two of you to be able to enjoy the fruits of your collective labor. For this to happen, you need to train your dog properly, using well-researched methods.

How to Train Your Dog

You may have already heard of many training approaches as the challenges of training a puppy are quite common. With all the information out there, how do you know what works? What are the best methods for training your dog? Naturally, you can enroll your dog in a training program where they will get a proper foundation and learn to understand basic commands. However, your dog will be living with you, so you should put some effort into training them yourself as well.

Toilet Training

The most basic training, and the most important one, is toilet training. This process may take some time and might get overwhelming, but after some time, your dog will understand what you’re trying to teach them if you use the tried-and-true methods.

For starters, try confining your dog to a limited area in the beginning, so your whole house doesn’t turn into a potty-training zone. Your dog will gradually learn that the small area they live in is not for peeing or pooping, and with time, you can expand the area, and gradually, your dog can have free rein in the house without doing their “business” everywhere. However, remember that this is only the first step.

It is best to start your dog’s toilet training when they are young and learning. Three months old is a good time to start training; prior to that, they don’t have much control over their bladder or bowels.

Some other toilet training techniques include:

  • Fixed Mealtimes: While potty training, make sure to give your dog food on a schedule. Avoid offering them surprise snacks or other food at different times.
  • Multiple Opportunities: At the beginning, give your dog multiple chances to do their business, so they can develop the habit of going when you want them to.
  • Choose the Same Spot: For both pooping and peeing, choose the same spot every day to create a sense of habit and familiarity. Your dog will understand the purpose of the spot, and the familiarity will give them a sense of comfort.
  • Accompany Them Each Time: When you give your dog the chance to take care of their “business,” they will appreciate it if you stay with them the whole time.

Obedience Training

Again, to reap all the benefits of owning a dog, it is very important that your dog learns to obey your commands. Obedience training is a must and can be accomplished with some fundamental lessons.

Research indicates that a dog can understand more than a hundred words, so at the very least, you can train your dog to understand these five basic commands.

  • Sit: This is the most basic command for a dog to understand, so starting with this one is recommended.
  • Drop: This command should prompt your dog to drop whatever is in their mouth. Your dog will try to satisfy their curiosity by putting things in their mouth and some of these things could be unhygienic or even dangerous.
  • Stay: A dog should stay in one place when asked to do so.
  • Heel: This command instructs your dog to stay close to you, something that is very useful in many situations, such as walking your dog without a leash.
  • Come: As soon as your dog is able to recognize their name, they should come to you when commanded. This command is also useful for your dog’s safety.

There are many methods for executing obedience training; choose whichever one works for you. Aversive training and reward-based training are two good ones.

Aversive Training: With this method, the training is punishment-based. For example, scolding is one technique, but there are other means of punishment to make your dog eventually follow your commands without having to use these techniques.

Reward-Based Training: As the name suggests, your dog receives a reward when they act according to your wishes. The rewards may range from giving belly rubs or treats to taking your dog for a walk.

In short, you can use any of these methods to get the job done. Choose what will work for you both.

What Not to Do When Training Your Dog

The advantages of training your dog are innumerable. In fact, training is not a choice but a necessity. However, while training your dog, avoid these behaviors if you want to succeed.

  • Starting Too Late: There is an age for learning. Once that golden period has passed, it will be more difficult to teach your dog. Training a dog is not only about correcting its behavior but it is about the behavior itself. From the very beginning, start with basic training.
  • Being Inconsistent: Training your dog is not a one-time deal. You have to be consistent in your approach. Try training for one thing at a time and go steady at that.
  • Don’t Take a Universal Approach: Every dog is unique. Some training techniques might work for other dogs but won’t be suitable for yours. Find out what works best for your dog and stick with this method.
  • Being Impatient: Training takes time. Cement this fact in your mind before starting the marathon of training your dog because, if you are impatient during the process, it will only make things worse.

Training your dog will take time, patience, and effort – a lot of it. But in the end, that trained dog by your side will become the most loyal, loving companion.

Hello there! I am Floppy, the loyal dachshund. I have written on a number of topics regarding the general health of our breed, our care and well-being. Today, we will be talking about why you should walk your dog regularly, and its importance in your dog’s life.

Why Is It So Important?

Let’s see why it is so important to walk your dog regularly.

Staying Active!

All dogs need their daily walk. It is even more vital for dachshunds. We are an intelligent breed, used mostly for our great sense of smell. Dachshunds sometimes work with the cops or the FBI.

What happens if you dont walk your dog?

Yes, we are that smart! In order to prevent lethargy and keep our bodies active, we need to exercise regularly. A dachshund is also a playful breed so you will have lots of fun with your dog while going for a walk.

Hunting

Dachshunds are designed to hunt; we enjoy going after small insects, badgers and the like. It is important for a dachshund to get out of the house every once in a while – he needs to go on his hunting sprees. They like to go after their prey and kill it. The toys at home will not suffice all the time.

Exercise

What happens if you dont walk your dog?

A dachshund’s build is quite different from that of other dog breeds. We have a large face and a long back, but very short legs. Our entire weight is supported by our small legs, which can lead to extra strain on them. This can also lead to abnormal weight gain. Since we are a playful breed that likes to go on adventures, weight gain is not at all suitable for a dachshund.

Avoid Lethargy

Dachshunds like to play. But if we are not given access to open space and fresh air, we can sometimes become downright lazy and fat. You don’t want your dog sleeping all the time, or just lying around idle. You want him capable of protecting the house and able to sniff out any pests. In order to perform our “jobs,” we really need our daily walk.

Socializing

Another reason why walks are so important for dogs is socialization. A dog likes to know more about the environment they live in, the neighborhood, the neighbors, and most importantly, other dogs in the area. We like getting to know each other, and meeting up, not unlike our masters. If our master has friends who also have a dog, that is the best thing ever! Then we can go for walks together, have play dates, hunt together, and many more things. We also don’t like being cooped up all day inside the house, with limited access to the world and few people to play with.

To Drain The Adrenaline

What happens if you dont walk your dog?

Dachshunds are meant primarily for scent-tracking and hunting. As such, we get these sudden bursts of energy at times, which we need to release every now and then. A walk addresses that need. Without a walk, our energy stores up inside our body and brain, making us restless and destructive. We could end up chewing on clothes, rugs, shoes, etc. even if we don’t want to!

Necessary Functions

A dog does not always want to relieve himself in the home or in the vicinity of the home. Sometimes, he needs a change in location. A walk provides this. A walk will also make going to the bathroom easier, and the house will be left fresher for it, too.

Consequences

What happens if you dont walk your dog?

Let’s take a look at the negative effects of not walking your dog regularly.

Breed-specific Health Problems

Dachshunds are especially prone to back problems. It could be genetic or situational, caused by moving the wrong way for our build, for example. The causes behind our back problems are many, and it is highly likely that a dachshund will experience some. One sure way of avoiding back problems is simple – take them out for a walk regularly, and you’re less likely to have anything to worry about.

Nuisance

Dachshunds are especially good at deep barks. If they don’t get their walk and adequate exercise, they tend to bark loudly, creating a ruckus in the neighborhood. This behavior is the result of restlessness caused by staying at home all day long. A dog needs fresh air every day, too.

Becoming Withdrawn

What happens if you dont walk your dog?

If you keep your dog inside the house all day long, away from the rest of the world, it is likely that he will become withdrawn. If he lacks experience interacting with the outside world, he will be confused about how to react when he happens to meet others. There will be hesitation and barking.

Becoming Hyperactive

If you don’t take your dog out often, there is a chance that he will go nuts when he does go outside. He would want to make the most of his time outside, resulting in over-enthusiasm. Humans might misinterpret this behavior as rude or arrogant, but most of the time, it is just over-friendliness that causes us to behave this way. Furthermore, this will make our owners hesitant about removing a dog’s leash and letting him roam around freely.

Stiffness

Dachshunds are already built with lower stamina, due to their short legs and long body. However, without regular walks, this situation will worsen, along with stiffness in the muscles. Stiff muscles will make it hard to run fast, jump around, and play chase.

Training Becomes Harder

Every dog requires training. Dachshunds are meant for hunting and socializing. However, in order to be compatible with humans, we need to be trained properly. Training is a crucial part of a dog’s life. If not done right, he might remain unruly. Training is done best outside the house, in the open air, and not within four walls. Through walks, this process becomes natural.

By now, you must have realized the importance of walks in a dog’s life. The ill-effects of not walking are many. So please give us our walks… it will be beneficial for you as well!

Walking your dog is essential. As a dachshund, I know the thrill of going out for a walk. Walks are our little way of partying and experiencing the world outside of our homes. At the same time, it’s a vital exercise to keep our bodies healthy. Cold weather would make us hesitate, but once I am outside, I will take off toward adventure. In addition to vital exercise, walking is a sensual experience for dachshunds. Try not to ever skip a walk for your dog; otherwise, you will deny him both joy and exercise. Walking also helps a dachshund channel his cheerful energy into productively exploring the world.

Remember that time when you were stressed and frustrated, and you went out for a stroll to inhale some fresh sir? When you were walking and you felt the air pamper you and whisper in your ear, “Calm down”?

How important is walking your dog

Everyone deserves a pleasant walk, especially your adorable pet. Walks aren’t only for your pet’s body, but also for his mind and soul. You can choose to go on a walk or not, but your dog has to rely on you for this essential activity. It is your responsibility to provide the best care for your furry friend, and a walk is an essential part of this.

If it is not possible to walk us daily, we should go on a walk at least three times a week. This is the bare minimum. Read on to find out why we need our walks.

Walking Is The Key To A Healthy Body

A walk not only helps your pet maintain a healthy weight, but it also promotes proper digestion. If your cheerful dachshund is left all day trapped inside, then he will become dull and lazy. A walk is vital for your pet’s body and his overall well-being. If your dachshund is not exposed to the wonders of the outside world, he will gradually gain weight and become lethargic. Daily exercise is necessary for maintaining a healthy body. A mature dachshund requires 60 minutes of daily exercise, while a puppy needs only 30 minutes. Walking is the best exercise for your dachshund. Dachshunds enjoy maintaining a healthy body while exploring the world. If your happy pet does not go out for a stroll every day or at least three times a week, he won’t be happy anymore and the weight gain will invite numerous potential health problems.

Walking Is The Opportunity To Socialize

How important is walking your dog

Socializing is an indispensable part of a dachshund’s life. It is a shield that protects your dear pet from anxiety and phobias. In order to encourage your pet to socialize, just take him for a walk. Walking creates opportunities for your pet to socialize. When your brave pet steps outside his comfort zone, he will develop the virtues of friendliness and courage. Exploring the different shades of the world strengthens him against more negative emotions. Socializing is mandatory for ensuring a puppy’s proper growth. Furthermore, to maintain the wellness of an adult dachshund, you need to continue walking.

When a dachshund goes for a walk, he is always prepared to charm everyone. But he must learn how to charm by going for walks starting at an early age. Through walks, your pet will meet other pets and learn how to socialize. He will learn how to interact with others and become friendly and loveable, instead of being fearful. Walking plays an important role in your pet’s mental development. If a dachshund is raised in isolated surroundings, he will turn out to be fearful and anxious. But you can prevent this by incorporating frequent walks in your pet’s schedule.

Walking As Disguised Training

How important is walking your dog

Don’t forget to grab training treats when you are taking your pet for a walk. Walking is the most beautifully disguised training opportunity. While your pet is excited to explore the world, you will instill in him lessons of good behavior. Your cheerful dachshund is most active when he is out there discovering the wonders of the world while he is still leashed. A walk is a happy time and ideal for training your little buddy. A stroll is also the perfect time to practice leash training.

Walking Transforms Destructive Into Constructive

When clouds are heavy, it is going to rain. Likewise, when your pet turns into an energy storehouse, it could “rain” at any moment. This rain could include barking thunderstorms and destructive chewing. In order to prevent these destructive behaviors, channelize your dog’s energy into something productive, like walking. With each footstep, your energetic dachshund will leave behind his excess energy. Walking will help your pet discharge his pent-up energy, leaving him much calmer and more relaxed afterward.

Walking Encourages Adaptation

How important is walking your dog

Adapting is necessary to survival. Walking your pet everyday will expose him to numerous scenarios. In the beginning, these new situations might frighten your pet, but gradually, he will adapt. Walking is essential for improving your dachshund’s quality of life. Your pet will develop with each new sight, sound or smell that he experiences. Walking aids your enthusiastic pet to explore, adapt and develop. It’s a process integral to your dachshund’s development.

Remember: walking is an opportunity to train your furry friend. It can also transform your pet’s behaviors from destructive to constructive. Walking can teach him to open up to others, and it will keep him in shape, even aiding his digestive system. Finally, walking provides a “classroom” in which your pet can learn to adapt to the world around him. Overall, walking is essential to your dog’s quality of life.

Having a frisky dachshund around is exhilarating. We dachshunds are friendly and cheerful – it is both our strength and weakness. When our friends leave us home alone, it’s a nightmare for us. And when they come back, we tend to respond with eccentric behavior. But if you are a true friend, you will know how to calm down a dachshund. By describing the ways to cool down your dog, this article will help you strengthen your bond with your lovely pet.

The need to cool down your dog can occur in numerous situations. It’s important to determine the reasons behind your pet’s stress. A dachshund is an agreeable pet who loves being around people. When left alone, we start to panic. If you find your peaceful dachshund barking for no reason, the reason is probably you.

5 Ways to Cool Down Your Dog

Dachshunds are also sensitive to the environment so certain weather can stress him out. Your dachshund is also sensitive to loud music. Grooming your dog can also lead to a stressful situation. During nail trimmings and vaccinations, dogs tend to lose their cool. Sometimes, excess energy and over-enthusiasm as a result of skipping a walk or other exercise can cause your pet to behave strangely. Furthermore, your family is an essential part of your pet’s life; he considers your family his ‘pack’ and missing any family member affects him a great deal.

You should help your dog manage these situations. Here are some ways to effectively calm him down.

Massage

5 Ways to Cool Down Your Dog

If your dog is frightened and starts to pant, roll his eyes and whine, then give him a soothing massage. A massage could help him relax. Stress is very bad for his mental health. When your dog is calm and cool, he will be on his best behavior. To massage your dachshund, lightly perch your palm on top of his head or neck. Then create long, sweeping motions along the length of his spine and all the way through to his tail. If you feel your dog likes the massage, gradually increase the pressure, but be careful. This cycle of soothing movements should relax your dachshund’s mind as well as his body. Massaging your dog is an art. Before finishing, place one hand at the base of his head and relax your other hand over the area of his pelvis. These two spots are key to generating relaxation in your dog. A good massage should relax your dog.

Aromatherapy

5 Ways to Cool Down Your Dog

Your pet’s comfort is as important as yours. You can easily find balms and sprays made especially for dogs. These products use essential oils and employ the properties of aromatherapy for the best results. Essential oils can assist in soothing your nervous pet.

The first precaution involved in this calming method is selecting the product. Remember to purchase one that is veterinarian-approved. Once you decide on a product, it’s time to try its magic. Whenever you find your pet nervous, frightened or hyperactive, just rub the product between your palms and apply it to his back. However, make sure the product is not applied to any area where your pet could lick it. Aromatherapy works like a magic trick. Within minutes of its application, you will notice its effects. Aromatherapy is a convenient method for calming down your adorable dachshund.

Exercise

5 Ways to Cool Down Your Dog

It is important to discharge your pet’s excess energy. The best way is to exercise. To calm down your dog, try playing with your dog or taking him for a walk. Playing with your dog allows him to release surplus energy while also enjoying himself. A very interesting technique for relaxing your dog is to make easy eye contact with him every time he fetches you the ball. In addition, a walk would allow your pet to alleviate anxiety while exploring. Walking ensures both physical and mental well-being. Fresh air, novel sights, sounds, and smells will lure your pet into a peaceful state of mind. Maybe your pet will run into one of his friends during the walk and release his stress through socializing. Or maybe spending time with you will relax him.

Pampering

Your dachshund loves you, and maybe all he needs is your calm touch. Pampering your pet can make a huge difference. Maybe the reason behind his stress is your absence, so release his stress by gifting him your presence. Just sit beside your dog and pamper him the way you always have. Your touch will soothe him to no end.

Compression Wraps

5 Ways to Cool Down Your Dog

After witnessing loud firecrackers or while experiencing general anxiety, your pet needs to be comforted. Comfort him by wrapping him in a compression wrap or anxiety coat. This practice will provide him a sense of security and that will help him calm down. Sometimes, you have to swaddle your pet to provide him peace. If you are not able to get an anxiety coat, then just wrap your adorable pet in a scarf or blanket. The key technique behind this method is to maintain the right pressure. The right amount of gentle pressure will instill serenity.

In the end, every method involving your presence can comfort your little buddy instantly. All an anxious dog requires is love and care. Calming down your dog is not a difficult job, but it’s a crucial one. Your dachshund cannot come to you and say that he is feeling low. It is the bond between you and your dear pet that will help you know he is in pain. And you can employ the above-mentioned methods to alleviate your dog’s pain. From soothing massages to swaddling your adorable dog, you can try any of the above methods in order to cool him down.

Dachshunds love many things and wool is one of them. We like wool because it is soft, natural and easy to carry around in our mouth. Cats are commonly shown to appreciate woolen balls. This association is constantly reinforced by movies and cartoons. Well, it turns out that dogs love wool as well. But is it safe? Let’s find out.

Especially in areas with a cold climate, you would have noticed your dog develop a liking toward your woolen sweaters, scarves or rugs. They often make these items their own and carry them around. They also tend to sleep with wool items as they offer warmth and comfort. The item might be badly worn or faded, but your dog will not trade it for anything else, even a brand new one. This is because they get attached to the item and it might mean something special to them; maybe it even reminds them of you.

Are Wool Toys Safe For Dogs?

Why Do Dogs Need Toys?

Toys are a very important part of your dog’s life. A toy can act as a companion to them, especially when they are alone. It is also a way for them to keep busy and avoid getting bored. If you choose the right toys for your dog, it will create a positive effect on his life. It can also help him overcome certain behavioral problems.

What Kind Of Toy Is Safe For Your Dog?

Are Wool Toys Safe For Dogs?

Like anything else, there are good toys and bad toys. Bad toys are those which can be easily ripped apart by your dog and that have parts that can be ingested and can prove to be hazardous. While choosing a toy, it is essential to check for durability.

It is also important to check for the right size for your dog, rather than going by age. Choose toys that are big enough that they cannot be ingested. Also, choose toys that have no small parts that might come off easily.

If you have a habit of giving squeaky toys to your dog, then make sure you give it only under supervision. Because dogs are usually focused on ripping apart the toy until the squeaker is out, there is a chance of ingesting it. The same goes for stuffed toys as well. Make sure you remove the toy the moment you know that it has been ripped apart.

Rubber toys are a good option as there are less likely to be ingested. Moreover, they are flexible so your dog will not have much pain while chewing.

When buying a toy for your dog, here are a few things to look for:

  • Check for a tag that mentions if it is approved safe for dogs.
  • Choose products that are made from natural materials like cotton, wool, jute, natural leather or rubber.
  • Choose toys that are chemical-free and odorless. These chemicals are bound to cause problems once the dog starts licking and chewing the toy.
  • Choose toys that can be washable. As you know, the toy is going to get soaked with drool and moreover, the dog will drag the toy around everywhere, getting it dirty so make sure the toy can be washed thoroughly and easily.

Can Dogs Eat Wool?

Are Wool Toys Safe For Dogs?

Yes. Dogs are a nuisance when it comes to finding and ingesting the most random things. You can catch them with their mouth on any new object they come into contact with and sometimes, they even try to lick and eat poop. By licking, biting, chewing and sometimes swallowing different objects, dogs explore and understand the world. So of course, they attempt to do the same with wool as well.

Ingesting wool is fairly easy and highly possible. Wool does not require long and hard biting sessions as the small fluffs and threads come off easily. They might stick to the tongue or teeth and get swallowed in due course. However, you will be relieved to know that ingesting a small amount of wool fuzz will not harm your dog. However, swallowing a whole toy will, of course, cause complications that could be severe.

How To Choose Wool Toys For Dogs?

Woolen toys have a natural texture and smell that attracts a dog more so than regular plastic toys or balls. Furthermore, these regular toys are treated with chemicals when they are manufactured and so might not be a good option for dogs.

There are several woolen balls available on the market that are made in an organic and durable manner without the usage of chemicals. These toys are made from 100% wool and as such, are completely natural.

Benefits Of Woolen Toys

  • They are soft on the teeth and do not cause any bleeding or teeth pain even when chewed fiercely.
  • There are no artificial elements or chemicals that might harm your dog.
  • They help keep the mouth and teeth clean. I am sure this is enough reason for you to get a woolen toy immediately for your dog.

Woolen Toys For Dogs

Are Wool Toys Safe For Dogs?

These toys are great for puppies as the soft material offers good support for the teething process. Moreover, they are organic. The soft, natural texture of a woolen toy will also resemble a mother’s skin so a puppy will find comfort with the toy.

Also, make sure you change his toys regularly, especially after you notice signs of wear and tear. Another precaution is to wet the toy often (but I am pretty sure your dog would already have done so with his saliva) so that any stray strands of wool will stick back to the toy.

Organic Woolen Balls

Nowadays, there are several shops online that sell purely organic woolen toys for dogs. These toys are usually homemade and specially designed for dogs. They are dyed with natural colors and can also be rewashed easily. You can find several options for sizes, colors, shapes, and types. Check for customer reviews and they try purchasing a few toys for your dog. Remember to check for durability.

Wool Dryer Balls

Not many people know this, but wool dryer balls that you use to reduce the static in winter and help dry your clothes faster is actually a great toy for your dog. Unlike plastic or rubber balls, you can be happier with wool balls as they make no noise and it is highly unlikely that the ball might hit and break something.

Conclusion

Toys made from organic materials are a great option for dogs so naturally, wool is safe and friendly for your dog. However, make sure the toy is big enough for your dog. Also, make sure that the toy does not have any small parts that your dog can tear off and accidentally ingest.

An important feature of being a great dog owner is choosing the best and the safest toys for your dog. Always make sure a toy is as safe as possible before giving it to your dog.

Catnip toys, as the name indicates, are toys that contain catnip and are designed for cats. However, some dog owners want to know if it is safe to give catnip toys to your dog. Read on to learn all about catnip, the effects on dogs and if the toys are suitable.

What Is Catnip?

Catnip, or Nepeta cataria, is an herb that belongs to the same family as mint leaves. The chemical compound called nepetalactone is present in the leaves and it attract cats (usually). Put simply, catnip is a substance that makes cats go crazy! We’ve all seen those videos on the Internet.

Can Dogs Have Catnip Toys?

Effects Of Catnip On Dogs

While catnip, as the name suggests, is generally popular among cats, it also has an effect on dogs to a certain extent. However, you will not find the same levels of excitement from dogs as observed in cats when catnip is involved. Catnip is harmless for dogs, provided it is the right dosage. Interestingly, catnip has the opposite effect on dogs as it does to cats. It acts as a mild sedative that calms dogs down.

Benefits Of Catnip For Dogs

Can Dogs Have Catnip Toys?

Most people do not know that catnip has a lot of benefits for dogs as well. However, you must consult with your vet to see how much is safe for your dog and when you can administer it. Also, do not use catnip too often.

  • Promotes relaxation. If your dog is stressed, having trouble sleeping or feeling nervous about leaving the house, then catnip is a good organic remedy that can help address these problems. It might take around half an hour for the herb to act, after which, it will produce a calming effect in your dog.
  • Catnip is used as a remedy for digestion problems in humans and it works well for dogs as well. If you notice that your dog is having gas or indigestion problems, you can give him a little catnip. It is a great solution for flatulence.
  • Catnip also helps to ease menstruation and related processes with female dogs as it stimulates blood circulation near the pelvic area. However, it is crucial to remember that it must not be given to pregnant dogs.
  • Another surprising fact about catnip is that it is a great insect repellent. In fact, it is more effective than regular repellents. An oil that is prepared from catnip can be sprayed on your dog’s body to protect him from pests. Consult your vet before trying this as it might not be suitable for every dog. The oil also has diuretic properties and helps detoxification.
  • Catnip contains thymol, which has antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. It acts as a natural ointment to boost the healing of wounds or infections.
  • While most dogs enjoy long rides with the air hitting their face, some dogs might experience motion sickness. If you want to avoid having to stop in the middle of a highway to clean dog puke, it is best to give your dog a little catnip half an hour before the journey.
  • Catnip is also beneficial for respiratory issues, muscle spasms, and diarrhea.

Catnip Toys

Catnip toys are stuffed with dried catnip and are designed with small bells or trinkets to make them more appealing to cats; these toys are specially crafted for cats and as such, are small in size. In general, they are toys infused with catnip.

Catnip Toys and Dogs

Can Dogs Have Catnip Toys?

It is generally not advisable for dogs to be given catnip toys. This is mainly because catnip toys are specially designed for cats and they are small in size. For cats, these toys are big and cannot fit in their mouths. However, they are very small for dogs. And dogs, as you know, love biting and ripping apart things so there is a danger of your dog possibly ingesting a catnip toy. These toys can also get stuck in the throat or gastrointestinal tract, which could lead to choking or require surgery. If it goes unnoticed, then it might prove to be deadly for your dog.

Another concern is that dogs can tear off the covering and ingest the entire dose of catnip. Overdosing on catnip can cause severe digestive problems and other harmful reactions. There is the chance your dog could become heavily sedated and inactive.

Though there have been no reports of death due to catnip toys, there have been several serious cases in which surgery was required. It is better to avoid such instances by simply not giving your dog catnip toys.

However, there are a few catnip toys that are suitable for dogs. However, these are not easily accessible. You can also opt for bigger-sized toys, if they are available, so that your dog can play without the risk of harm.

Safety Measures Before Giving Catnip To Your Dog

Make sure you first consult with your vet before you administer catnip to your dog. Even if it is as a toy, seek consultation. You can rub catnip on your dog’s toys; for example, rub it on a ball and let your dog lick it up. This way, you won’t have to worry about any accidental ingestions.

A Canine Alternative!

Just like cats deriving a ‘high’ from catnip, canines also have their own herb – anise or aniseed gives dogs a similarly pleasurable experience as cats get from catnip. However, it is crucial for you to find out from your vet if your dog can handle it and if it is safe.

Also, the effects of anise on your dog depends on what manufactured form you get. It is best to buy anise-flavored dog toys or treats from your pet store instead of trying to give him regular anise.

Conclusion

Remember that although catnip is not harmful to dogs and might actually prove beneficial if used in problematic situations, catnip toys may not be a good option. Also, keep in mind that the purpose of administering catnip to your dog is as a medical remedy and not for play or pleasure purposes. So it is best to keep those catnip toys away from your canine.

If you are a new dog owner, I am sure you have a million questions regarding your new doggy friend. As you are aware, choosing suitable toys for your dog is very important. While some toys may seem like positive influences or good companions, some might lead to increased aggressiveness. Also, know that each dog is unique and has its own personality; not all dogs can play with balls and bones. Dogs can play with anything they get their mouths on, but not every object can qualify as a safe and suitable toy. So it is up to you to understand your dog and then choose his toy.

Not every dog will love a squeaky toy, but the ones who love them can be really difficult to live with. If you have a dog with a squeaky toy, I am sure you are annoyed by the squeak, squeak, squeak all day and night. If your dog is inside the home, you will have to put up with that squeaky noise, so good luck handling those headaches.

Squeaky Toys For Dogs

Why Do Dogs Like Squeaky Toys?

A simple theory suggests that dogs love squeaky toys because of a cause and effect mechanism. Every time they bite or press the toy, a noise is emitted. This activates the reward center of the brain, causing pleasant and satisfying feelings that encourage your dog to play more and make more noise.

Squeaky Toys For Dogs

Do Squeaky Toys Stimulate Prey Drive?

Did you know that your dog belongs to the family of wolves? Dogs are descendants of wolves, so they have a natural instinct to hunt and kill prey. Wild dogs and dogs that were used for hunting are used to killing smaller animals or birds and the squeaky toy resembles the cries of the prey. It doesn’t matter if your dog is a poodle or a Chihuahua, they come from a line of predators and they still possess at least a small trace of predatory instinct.

You might also have noticed that dogs tend to be more aggressive toward squeaky toys and they keep biting and trying to rip them apart. The explanation is that predators have the aim of killing their prey before feeding on it and in the same way, your dog will not stop biting the squeaky toy until it is ripped open, the squeaker is out and there is no more noise. A dog also tends to lose interest in the toy once there is no more noise. This is because the mission is accomplished; his prey is dead.

Do They Encourage Dogs to Bite More?

Squeaky Toys For Dogs

Some believe that dogs that are familiar or obsessed with squeaky toys develop a tendency to bite more. However, this claim is debatable. A dog might be encouraged to bite the toy more, and not direct this same behavior toward humans. If your dog bites you and you react, he will usually stop biting and not continue the behavior. Another fact that disapproves this claim is that dogs are not capable of generalizing information like humans. So it is highly unlikely for your dog to behave the same way toward you as it does toward his squeaky toy.

The Risks And Dangers Involved In Squeaky Toys For Dogs

One of the main factors why dog trainers, books and dog owners will advise you against giving squeaky toys to your dog is because they might cause aggressiveness. Squeaky toys are also known to cause hyperactivity. For some dogs, the squeakers might induce and activate their predatory drive to dangerous levels. After this, it might become impossible to control your dog. Sometimes this aggressive behavior is often directed at babies or small animals.

The squeakers in the toys are also a choking hazard. As mentioned above, dogs are done with the toy only when they get the squeaker out. And as you know, squeakers are very small in size and can easily be swallowed. This might lead to choking, bloating and other situations that could require surgery. Squeaky toys can even become deadly if the dog is alone at home for long periods of time with no one to monitor him.

Symptoms

If you notice that the toy is missing its squeaker or there is no noise anymore, there is a chance that your dog may have swallowed it by accident. Here are a few symptoms that you need to look for to determine if the squeaker might be in your dog.

  • Vomiting
  • Refusal to eat. This is a major part of an early warning system. If your dog is a good eater and he expresses a sudden hesitation or disinterest in eating, something could be wrong.
  • Diarrhea, constipation or other unusual bowel movements
  • Lethargy or inactiveness
  • Constant gagging or burping
  • Behavioral changes

It is best to contact your vet immediately if you notice these symptoms. Moreover, the squeaker can pass out of your dog’s body through feces, depending on the location it is lodged in. If it is lodged in the small intestine, it might lead to bloating, which is very dangerous.

Squeaky Toys For Puppies

One of the key rules for picking out toys for puppies is that there must be no parts that can be ripped off and accidentally ingested. And as you now know, most squeaky toys have small squeakers in them that are hazardous to your puppy. Also, if you notice that your puppy has developed an obsession for destroying the toy to make it stop squeaking, then it is highly advisable to remove that toy or let the pup use the toy only under supervision.

Squeaky Toys For Dogs

Squeaky Toys and You

Another reason why dogs prefer squeaky toys is that they are a great tool to grab your attention. You might be watching a movie or talking on the phone and it is impossible for you to miss that squeaker’s noise. Each time the squeaking streak begins, you are bound to glance at your dog and this attention encourages them to continue the act.

Conclusion

Not just squeaky toys, but any small toy must be given to your dog only under your supervision. Even if it is a piece of thick rope, dogs have the ability to keep chewing on it and then swallow the small pieces that come off. If your situation is such that your dog is alone for a significant amount of time, make sure he has big and safe toys like semi-inflated footballs or verified toys from the pet store.

As you know by now, each dog is different and their relationship with a toy is also different. Maybe your dog loves squeaky toys just because of the extra noise which causes excitement. So if you give your dog a squeaky toy, make sure you monitor their attitude toward the toy and then decide if you can allow the dog to hold on to its squeaky friend.

Everyone has their favorite things: color, food, place, sport, etc. It might come as a surprise to you, but dogs have favorite toys as well, just like how they have a favorite person, favorite spot for napping or favorite food. If you have more than one dog at home, you might have noticed that their favorite toys are not the same (except in rare cases).

Your dog probably carries his favorite toy everywhere he goes. The toy might be worn and covered with drool, but he won’t part with it. You will also have a hard time trying to take the toy from him. Even if you present new toys to your dog, he won’t forsake his favorite one.

There is no obvious reason as to how and why a dog chooses a favorite toy, but there are some possible explanations. Like humans, dogs are unique and dynamic, and so it is difficult to come up with a single reason. His favorite toy can be anything – a soft toy, a ball or even a piece of rope.

Why Do Dogs Have Favorite Toys?

Choosing The Favorite Toy

Why your dog has favorited a particular toy might have to do with you. For example, you might have given him a new toy during a happy moment. In addition, sometimes a dog is attracted to something that smells of his favorite person. And if that favorite person is you, then your old sock, toy or shirt might end up becoming your dog’s favorite plaything. His favorite toy might also be an object that you often use with him. For instance, if you regularly play Frisbee with your dog, then your dog might get attached to the Frisbee as it reminds him of a happy playtime with his favorite person.

Your Dog’s Favorite Toy and Their Personality

Why Do Dogs Have Favorite Toys?

Would you have ever imagined that a deeper connection existed between a simple toy and your dog? Surprise yourself and read on to learn some interesting facts about toys and your dog.

All dogs have a natural instinct that influences their choice of toy which varies with each breed. Adding to this, age also plays an important role. Puppies tend to choose toys that are suitable for biting or chewing as this helps with their teething process. The opposite happens with mature dogs; they choose softer toys as they might have missing or weak teeth.

Balls

We dachshunds were initially bred to hunt animals like badgers, rabbits and wild boar. Similarly, terriers and hounds are hunting dogs. These dog breeds have an inherent need to chase targets. As such, when you throw a ball, we will gladly chase it and fetch it back. These dogs require more physical activity than other breeds and they are generally more active and eager to play. While engaging in this level of physical activity, make sure you keep your dog well hydrated.

Soft Toys

Why Do Dogs Have Favorite Toys?

Some breeds like retrievers and labradors are used to fetching prey that’s been shot by their masters. They retrieve the carcasses of a bird or other animal using their mouth, and they handle it with a grip that is not too tight. Soft toys easily take the place of dead prey.

Another reason why dogs, especially females, choose soft toys is because they produce the feeling of nurturing a small puppy. Pregnant dogs, or dogs that have experienced false pregnancies, often exhibit this attachment. But make sure you keep the behavior in check as it could lead to an obsession.

Tug Toys

Breeds like pugs, bulldogs and certain varieties of terriers love tugging at things. This can become a challenge to manage if your dog stays indoors at home. They will tug on your rugs, mats, bedsheets, ropes, curtains and anything else possible. This mainly occurs because these breeds initially traveled in packs to hunt prey. They would tear their prey’s flesh and this tugging behavior is a faded version of it.

Squeaky Toys

You might not have expected this, but squeaky toys remind dogs of the cries of their prey when they are killed. Wild canines hunt their own prey and as you know, dogs and wolves are closely related. The Siberian Husky is a good example. For such breeds, squeaky toys are usually favorites.

Mothering a Toy

This behavior is usually observed in female dogs. They choose toys that resemble a puppy or something that is similarly small and soft; the toy acts as a surrogate baby. They carry it around, lick it constantly and also sleep with it. They are extremely protective of the toy and they only allow one or two people, whom they are very fond of, to touch the toy.

Why Do Dogs Have Favorite Toys?

When Should You Intervene?

Though choosing a favorite is up to your dog, there are some cases where you will have to step in and guide him to find a suitable toy. Sometimes, your dog might get attached to a random object that does not really qualify as a toy. For example, some dogs are stubbornly set on chewing and ripping apart your footwear. They then parade around with it and if you remove it from them, they will go after another slipper. Sometimes, they might be attracted to hairbrushes. This can become dangerous if they start ingesting the bristles. It is your responsibility to monitor the kind of things your dog can have access to and it is best you give your dog the option of selected toys from which he can choose his favorite.

Conclusion

It is healthy for a dog to have a favorite toy and there is no reason to worry about it unless your dog displays an aggressive attitude when you try to touch or take the toy. It is okay to be a little possessive, but aggressiveness demands attention. When the dog is alone, a toy can act as a companion. For some dogs that have stress or other emotional problems, a toy can help them relax and lighten their mood. Maybe your dog often comes to greet you with his toy in tow. This is to let you know that it is time to play and that your attention is required. But more than any favorite toy, we love spending time with you.

One of the peculiar features of dogs, in general, is that they tend to chew almost anything and everything. Dachshunds, of course, have this habit as well. Puppies especially develop a fascination for anything new and their first move is to lick it, bite it or chew it. Among all the things we dogs love to chew, rocks and pebbles are very common. This behavior is puzzling, but don’t think your dog is the only one that does this; plenty of dogs have this problem. However, the reasons behind the development of this habit differ with each dog. It is your responsibility to find out why your dog chews rocks.

Why Does My Dog Chew On Rocks

Risks Of Eating Rocks

Chewing rocks is very harmful for dogs as the sharp edges or hard material might cause damage to the mouth and teeth. If ingested, it could lead to more serious complications; it might get stuck in the throat and lead to choking. So it is important to watch for this behavior and seek remedies as quickly as possible.

Pica

Pica is a psychological condition that occurs in dogs that compels them to chew and ingest things that are not food items. The behavior is compulsive and acts as a neurosensory explorative mechanism for dogs to make sense of the world; this is why dogs tend to lick or chew any new item they see. Foreign objects can be of any material: metal, paper, rock, plastic, cloth or even poop. This behavior can be very dangerous as the ingestion of these items may cause damage to the digestive system and might also lead to choking.

Though this behavior is typically found in puppies, breeds like dachshunds and labradors can exhibit it lifelong.

Symptoms Of Pica

Why Does My Dog Chew On Rocks

Apart from chewing all kinds of objects, there are other symptoms that could indicate your dog has pica. You must also look out for symptoms that can occur after your dog has accidentally swallowed something.

  • Vomiting
  • Bowel movement changes – diarrhea or constipation
  • Constant burping
  • Choking
  • Sneezing or coughing
  • Poisoning – if your dog accidentally ingests any kind of chemical substance
  • Lethargy

Causes Of Pica

Most causes of Pica are due to psychological factors, but there are some medical causes as well, and it is best to consult your vet to find the root cause and take measures accordingly.

Psychological Causes:

  • Depression
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Lack of social activity
  • Attention seeking personality
  • Stress
  • Lack of physical and mental stimulation

Other Causes:

  • Neurological disease
  • Teething in puppies
  • Malnutrition
  • Diabetes
  • Vitamin or Calcium deficiency
  • Parasitic infections
  • Anemia
  • Inflammatory bowel disease

Treatment Of Pica

Why Does My Dog Chew On Rocks

You can treat pica based on the type of condition your dog has. If it is a psychological cause, you can increase social activity, spend more time together and reduce boredom. If it is a medical cause, then you can treat it accordingly. For nutrition-related causes, you can change your dog’s diet to make sure he has a balanced and nutrient-rich diet. If any medication is necessary, take it according to the vet’s instructions, or if an existing medication is causing the problem, then discontinue it.

You can buy special chew toys for your dog to prevent him from going after other materials.

Other Factors That Cause Dogs To Chew Rocks

  • Deficiency – Vitamin and calcium deficiency are major factors that induce this behavior. In order to make up for the lack of certain nutrients in their diet, dogs tend to chew and ingest rocks to gain nutrients from them.
  • Loneliness – If your dog is at home all day while everyone is out at work or school, it is highly likely that he will develop this habit out of loneliness or boredom. In this case, either make sure your dog has enough options to keep himself entertained at home or try leaving him at a doggy daycare.
  • Diabetes – Dachshunds and other dogs can develop diabetes mellitus. If this is the case, then the rock-chewing behavior is explained and you can take necessary measures after consulting your vet.
  • Worms – If you do not regularly deworm your dog, then he might develop this rock-chewing tendency. So make sure you follow the deworming schedule.
  • Bloat – If your dog suffers from bloat, he might develop this habit. Visit your vet immediately as bloat is deadly for dogs.

How To Get Your Dog To Stop Chewing Rocks?

Why Does My Dog Chew On Rocks
  • The most important step is clearing your dog’s surroundings of any small objects that might attract him. If he lives in a kennel, this task will be easy and you only have to check his surroundings when you let him out. However, it is more challenging if your dog lives inside at home; in addition to keeping such objects out of reach, you might have to take other steps as well.
  • Basket muzzle: It might seem cruel to some, but remember that you are doing this for the welfare of your dog. Especially for dogs inside houses, muzzles are a good solution. This is just temporary and after a few weeks of practice, your dog will forget his old habit.
  • Use positive and negative reinforcement to make your dog drop the habit. Every time he drops a rock on your command, give him a treat and if he is stubborn and doesn’t drop the rock, you can dole out a small punishment like giving a time-out or making a loud noise. A key point to note here is that you must have accurate timing; each time the dog picks up a rock, you must enforce the negative punishment so that he can correctly associate both acts.
  • If your dachshund is still a puppy, then it is best to train him right now as training later on is very hard. Teach the ‘leave it’ command and use it every time he picks up a rock.
  • More than anything else, it is essential that you spend enough time with your dog. We love attention and we love playing with you. This quality time will remove any depressed or anxious feelings and your dog will be happier and more active. In particular, highly energetic dogs will continually chew rocks or stones if you don’t address their boredom. So make sure you go out on regular walks and get in lots of playtime.
  • Get durable toys for your dog to chew so that there are fewer reasons for him to seek rocks or other foreign objects.
  • Maintain a healthy and balanced diet that is complete with all the nutrients required for your dog. Also, make sure he finishes every meal and give him a few healthy treats now and then. Also, follow the vaccine and tablet schedule given by your vet.

Conclusion

Chewing inedible products is a natural instinct for dogs. Though some may grow out of it after a particular stage, others will continue to do so. You can change this behavior by constantly reinforcing and monitoring your dog. The easiest way to avoid this habit is by spending sufficient time with your dog every day and not letting him feel neglected or bored. Maintaining a healthy diet and monitoring his surroundings are other essential factors.

Fleas and ticks are very common and terrifying for our breed. To learn how to protect your lovely pet from them, you first have to know more about these little devils. These persistent parasites feed on our blood, and a single bite can transfer numerous diseases, ranging from allergic reactions to serious, tick-borne illnesses. Preventing your dachshund from getting fleas and ticks is vital for his peaceful well-being. Though ticks and fleas are prominent in warmer seasons, prevention steps should be taken year round.

How to prevent ticks and fleas?

All dachshund parents need to know the following about ticks and fleas for optimum prevention.

  • They appear during spring and summer and they thrive in warm, humid climates.
  • The parasites can be brought into your house by other animals, such as stray dogs, stray cats, etc. or just through contact with these animals.
  • They live in tall bushes and grass, where they can attach to your dog while on his stroll through the park.
  • They can attack your pet when they are already present in your house or backyard due to unhygienic surroundings.

Below is a list of prevention techniques to keep your cheerful dachshund safe and sound.

Natural Prevention

Use Of Natural Oils

Essential oils such as lavender, lemongrass, cedar, and peppermint can be diluted and used as sprays or mixed with shampoo to help keep away these pests. Remember not to overdo it with oils because your dachshund can be put off by them, too. Also, do not spray the mixture around his face. These are very strong and concentrated so a small amount will work for a long time.
Neem oil and rose geranium are also recommended. You only need three drops of these – one behind each shoulder blade and one drop near the base of the tail. Coconut oil can also be used as a repellent by rubbing it through the pet’s coat, but remember: no overdoing it.
You can also use essentials oils to keep your backyard parasite free.

Diet Addition - Fresh Crushed Garlic

Use more than half a clove per twenty pounds of body weight daily. This easily accessible ingredient does wonders protecting your dear dachshund from the unwanted companions of ticks and fleas. It’s a simple method for protecting your pet from harmful parasites. However, this method is strictly prohibited for dachshunds with a history of hemolytic anemia.

Vinegar In Water

You can always add vinegar to your pet’s drinking water at the rate of one teaspoon per quart of water. Vinegar would also protect your pet when it is sprayed on his coat. Like garlic, vinegar is easily accessible and this subtle method would provide a great amount of protection to your dog.

Use of Diatomaceous Earth

Food grade Diatomaceous Earth is one of the best methods to prevent fleas. Being extremely absorbent, it dehydrates the flea, leading to its death. Using this your dachshund’s environment will kill fleas, keeping your precious pup protected. However, make sure that your pet doesn’t inhale or try to ingest DE. In addition, if you use it indoors, you have to keep vacuuming the area to get rid of the dead fleas.

We dachshunds are an amazingly cute and loyal breed. We are capable of love very much like humans and in our big animated eyes, one can almost see that love swimming. If you ask me, I think our cute characteristics have made humans a fan of my breed, too. I mean, isn’t it pretty much evident from the number of movies that feature us?

However, the confusing part is why do humans go all mushy and teary-eyed while watching us in movies? I mean, at least my human seems to have a leakage problem every time she watches the Ugly Dachshund or the Secret Life of Pets. And for the next two days after that, she showers me with love and treats me as if I am her most cherished possession in the world – not that I am complaining or anything.

If you are a pet lover and you own a dachshund as your live-in buddy, then you are probably familiar with our slightly stubborn, but loyal conduct. We dachshunds are a small, but mighty breed! We are also smart because we were originally used as hunting dogs, whose skills included flushing out badgers and hunting smaller prey like rabbits.

Because of this, we were trained to think on our own. But our intelligence can make us a little strong-willed, resulting in the reality that my breed is not as easy to instruct as some others. We dachshunds are in the habit of giving our owners grief, especially during our training period. However, there is nothing that patience and love cannot win over, and so, by practicing patience and love, you can win over a dachshund, too!

Dachshund Training- Dog Training For Your Dachshund Puppy

There is no doubt that us Dachshunds, the small four-legged canine breeds with our cute eyes and small legs are heart stealers. We are so cute that it is essentially impossible to look into our eyes and to not take us home. But don’t let our cute eyes and small frame fool you! Because no matter how miniature we seem but we Dachshunds can definitely hold our ground before other big dogs. Our breed is bossy and stubborn. And this is exactly why you need to read this book, Dachshund Training- Dog Training For Your Dachshund Puppy by Claudia Kaiser. In the book, she narrates her experience while training her Dachshund.

The book talks about us Dachshunds and describes, in a very simple and easy to understand way, how we see the world. It dictates Dachshund owners on a step by step way to develop a close, positive and trusting relationship with us. And the best part about the book? It comes in two volumes, where the first volume (this book) talks about how to train your Dachshund when he is small and just a puppy, and the second book (Dachshund Training Volume 2: Dog Training For Your Grown Up Dachshund) instructs on what to do while training him when he is all grown up.

So, these are some best books that as a Dachshund owner you can refer to in order to train us and to develop with us an ever-lasting and trusting relationship. Because just as you will get past our stubborn behavior, you will realize that in us Dachshunds you can find the most loyal and most caring friend!
